Across the United States, nearly 11 million families are led by a single parent and the majority are led by single mothers. For many of these women, the challenges are overwhelming, with nearly one in three living below the poverty line.
Right here in Sun Prairie, more than 300 children in the school district are considered homelessness. Behind each family is a story of instability, hardship, and often, deep trauma. 92% of mothers experiencing homelessness have endured severe physical or sexual abuse in their lifetime.
At Shelter from the Storm Ministries, we believe these families are not defined by their circumstances. We exist to walk alongside the modern-day widows and orphans, offering not just shelter, but a path forward. Through holistic support, life skills development, and a stable, faith-centered community, we help families break the cycle of generational poverty and homelessness.
We don’t offer a handout, we offer a hand up. Together, we work with each family to overcome barriers, secure employment, and find safe, sustainable housing where they can truly thrive.
